What an appointment says about your company
An appointment is of interest to the press only if it signals a change: a new phase, a strategy or a succession. It also sends a message to your customers, partners and prospective candidates.
- Reassure people that things will continue as before. Announcing a succession clearly helps prevent rumours.
- Show ambition. Hiring someone from a major company or another country signals where you’re headed.
- Establish the appointee’s credibility. A public announcement can help them get off to a good start in their new role.
- Update directories. Executive databases and Clardot profiles will reflect the change.
Before the press release: inform your team
Employees, the executive committee and key customers should not find out about the appointment through the press. The usual order is: affected teams, then all employees, then key customers, followed by the press release. All on the same day.
When to announce an appointment
On the day the appointment is officially announced internally, or as soon as the person takes up their role for senior positions. If your company is listed, align the announcement with your regulated information calendar.
