Announcing a partnership: press release, example and template

A partnership is best understood in terms of what it changes for both parties. Here’s how to announce one, with an example and a template.

What a partnership press release needs to demonstrate

“Strategic partnership” is one of the phrases most likely to be ignored by newsrooms. A partnership becomes news when it shows something tangible: a joint product, access to a new market, a customer base or a specific term.

  • Borrow the other party’s profile. A smaller player gains credibility by joining forces with a recognised name.
  • Reach two audiences. Each partner shares the announcement with its customers and the press.
  • Make the agreement visible to buyers. A public partnership reassures customers on both sides.

A joint press release: who approves what

A partnership press release should be published jointly. Appoint one writer, have both management teams approve the text, and involve legal teams if the agreement includes confidentiality clauses. Agree on the publication date and time, and prepare a quote from each side.

When to announce: at signing or after the first results

Announce the partnership when it is signed, or when it gets under way if both partners would rather announce a result. Ideally, publish a joint press release approved by both parties.

What to include

  • Name and introduce both partners
  • The specific purpose: a joint product, distribution, a contract or research
  • The term, scope and amount, if public
  • What each party brings to the partnership
  • A quote from each side

On Clarsource, these details are extracted into the announcement’s structured profile, under Contracts and partnerships.
