Why announce an investment

An industrial or property investment commits a company for several years. Announcing it makes it visible to those who will contribute to it or benefit from it.

  • Recruit. Announcing vacancies reaches people in the local jobs market.
  • Recognise the funders. The region, banks and national programmes expect to be named.
  • Reassure customers. Increased capacity means delivery times can be met.
  • Support local growth. Development agencies share news of projects.

Decision, construction, commissioning: three possible announcements

Announce the investment once the decision is formalised, when work begins or when financing is secured. Announce it again when the facility is commissioned: these are two distinct pieces of information.

How to present the financing plan

The business press almost always asks how an investment is financed. Set out the breakdown by amount:

  • equity;
  • bank or regional loans;
  • grants and public schemes, naming each one;
  • any industrial partners.

The figures should add up to the total investment announced. On Clarsource, the assistant checks that the figures are consistent before submission.

Essential information

  • Total amount and breakdown: equity, loans, grants
  • Purpose: equipment, building, increased capacity
  • Town and site
  • Commissioning date
  • Jobs created
  • Public funders, if any

On Clarsource, this information is extracted into the announcement's structured record, under Investment and new sites.
